The FEATS lists, first conceived in 1993 and revised in 2005 to take account of changing circumstances, have been reviewed.
There are still three lists, but they are now divided on geographical lines: Belgium, Luxembourg and France; Germany; and “Rest of Europe”, meaning in practical terms Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece and Italy.
And for the first time the list ranking can be consulted on the Web site.
The interactive FEATS lists make it possible to see the selection order at any time. Groups are listed in alphabetical order, but clicking on the column header – the date – makes it possible to sort groups depending on whether or not they performed in a given year.
At the same time, other criteria are applied: the host group in one year goes to the top of the list for the next; new groups also have preferential treatment; and any group that has failed to perform after committing itself to the previous festival moves down the list.
For the sort criteria to be valid they have to be applied over a number of years. The tables contain the last five years’ performance information. Clicking in the date column in chronological order, from the earliest to the most recent, gives the current selection order.
And then all that is missing is the answer to the invitation sent out in July: would the group say “yes” if invited to take part?
The host group knows, and definitive invitations are sent out to those groups that answered positively.
Remember … it could be you!
